Developer update
Almost three months since the app launched
Hi, this is a newsletter from Charles, the developer behind BodyWHAT. Since the launch of the mobile app we've shipped something every week. Here are the changes you may have not noticed, starting with the biggest.
We're on TikTok and Instagram! Please follow us!
BodyWHAT now has its own TikTok and Instagram accounts, and we're aiming to post every day fun and useful content about fitness and body composition. Follow along, and keep an eye out: every so often we'll post a code for free Premium time that you can redeem on the website. Check out our first post about what different body fat levels look like (here on Instagram and here on TikTok).

See your future physique, then make it your target
Take a scan, and BodyWHAT shows you what you could look like leaner, more muscular or heavier: built from your own photos, with a slider that plays between now and then.
New with Premium: set it as your target. Stop the slider on the body you want and tap Set as target. It lands in your goals with what it means in numbers (the lean mass to build, the fat to lose) and an honest estimate of how long it takes. Every new scan then shows how far along you are, with your current body drawn against the target's outline: green where you still have to build, orange where you still have to lose. Rob knows your target too, and coaches you toward it.

A better food scanner, open to everyone
It's no longer Premium-only. Every account gets ten free food scans: point the camera at a meal and the calories and macros are worked out from the picture.
It's out of beta, and better at almost everything. Food search checks four databases instead of one. You can repeat a meal you've logged before, correct an entry after the fact, and your log is split into last day/week/month, with the photo, date and time of every meal.
Premium costs less
We've lowered the price of Premium everywhere: $9.99 a month, or $59.99 a year. If you're already a member, you've been moved to the new price automatically. And in a couple of dozen countries it's billed in your local currency at a level set against local purchasing power, so the price on the membership page is the price you pay, in your own currency, on the web and in both app stores.

Three new metrics beyond body fat
Muscularity is a score of how muscular you look, from minimal to competition-level. Body age is how old your body reads, independent of how old you are; Rob brings it up when it's moving. Sex appeal is a score out of ten from the same photo. It's the least serious number we produce and the card says so: it isn't precise and it isn't a health measure.

Coach Rob is more proactive
Your coach no longer waits to be opened. He writes when a scan finishes, checks in between sessions, and refers to what has actually changed rather than greeting you generically. He knows your local time, so a message arrives in your morning and not overnight.
Rob can look things up, remembers your plans and can now amend them seamlessly
Rob searches the web when a question needs a current answer (a study, a product, a figure he shouldn't be guessing at) rather than answering from memory. He carries your saved training and nutrition plans into the conversation, so "what am I doing on Tuesday" is a question he can simply answer. Changing a plan is now just a matter of asking him in the chat: tell him your lower back is sore or you've only got three days this week, and he says what he'd change, then rewrites the plan in place once you've checked it.

Voice and photos in the coaching chat
The chat now has a microphone button: tap it and speak instead of typing, on iOS and Android, in any of our six languages. You can also upload photos now; send a meal, a piece of equipment, a machine you don't recognise, or a movement you'd like looked at, and Rob answers about the picture.
Two libraries you can browse
A recipe library (700+ recipes with photos, macros and step-by-step instructions) and an exercise library (870+ movements with a photo you can tap to watch). Neither needs a scan to open; they're both in the account menu, translated into all six of our languages.
More famous scans, and a way through them
Dozens of new athletes and personalities, each measured through the same pipeline as your own scans. There's a proper directory to filter, sort and search, each scan comes with a short write-up and a "Similar to" row of comparable physiques, and the Hub now has celebrity-vs-celebrity comparisons too.
What's next
The next big feature will be a workout tracker. Start a session from one of your training plans, or just log a run, and the app takes you through it exercise by exercise. Your weights and reps editable as you go, you get a rest timer, and see what you lifted last time. Every workout lands on a calendar next to your scans, and Rob sees what you actually did, so his advice follows your training instead of guessing at it.
